Smile Mining The Rocks

Hello new jge fans this thread is pretty much about whatever you guys want to discuss about mining. this is what I know: The Asteroid types are probably as follows:Normal, Precious, Ice, Radioactive, and Semifluxor. There will be multiple ore types dictated somewhat by the asteroids base type which will as you can see, easy to recognize. Here's a good pic.

The second one. Does anyone have any ideas about the mining tools we're going to use?

Although a bit outdated (sorry for the late response), Istvan was kind enough to provide a developer's insight on mining in JGE vs. JGC. While some of the info may have changed (we still have yet to see mining in action), this is a good basis of their line of thinking:

Hi there,

>The ooore objects will respawn, but they won't always be in the exact same place, or be of the same type. The parent asteroid will define the possible kinds of ore, of course, and the physical asteroid types themselves will remain easy to identify.<

Will the parent asteroid keep its type?

Else it would be impossible to make a map tool of asteroids of a certain kind of ore...

>The ore objects will be destructible static bots (you'd use the new equivalent of the mining laser to destroy them), and we'll just use a loot handler to provide the ore, exactly like dropping salvage from a destroyed ship.<

Good. You can simply let unwanted ore drift and fill the ships cargohold with only the wanred type of ore.

Was a pain in classic jumpgate to get maybe 2 other unwanted types of ore and having to go to the station to sell everything before you could finish your mission at the second ride...

>Ores will be converted into the game's raw materials at Refinery buildings, giving us the root of our production and manufacturing tree.<

Will we have to go to a refinery building or is it just the second step in the line to haul ore to the refinery buildings and then sell the raw materials?
-> giving us 2 options as a miner:

selling the ore
or going to refinery building for a bigger profit?

Good question on the ore types spawning per-asteroid-type. It would definitely make mapping a bit harder if they didn't. However, mapping in a 3D plane is going to be a bit trickier any way you look at it. \

I'll see if I can get some more info on that.
